Louis Clichy and Alexandre Astier direct this children's animation based on the comic book series by Rene Goscinny. Christian Clavier and Guillaume Briat voice Asterix and Obelix, the two feisty Gauls living in rural Brittany free from Roman rule. When the elderly Panoramix (Bernard Alane) breaks his leg Asterix and Obelix seek a young druid capable and worthy of learning the secret magic potion that enables the villagers to live without interference from the Roman army. However, as they set off Asterix and Obelix are met by the invading Romans and they must do all they can to find a young druid before it is too late.

They would have approved of this.
I wonder if those two frenchmen realised the strength of the characters they made. Asterix gives not only life lessons on proper behavour -except the gallic temper, perhaps- but subtle history lessons as well.
