Too good to be th elast - but is it?
A welcome addition to the Creek canon, with top drawer support from the always entertaining Warwick Davis. More enjoyable than some previous episodes simply because Creek seems to be returning, if briefly, to the sleuthing he loves. Sadly, it looks like being the last - ever? - episode as no further programmes have been broadcast since. The final scene, which has a bittersweet surprise at the very end, seems to tell us we will heard no more from our duffle coated hero. Which is a shame, as Creek's irritating, shallow wife finally seems to be thawing enough to support him in his endeavours. There was still so much to be explored. I am one of the long term fans who haven't got on with the sudden and largely unexplained change in Creek's lifestyle and character in recent years. No reasons for the seismic changes have ever been mooted. Creek seems out of place and uncomfortable in his role as husband to a wealthy, upwardly mobile woman, who seems to have all the character of a boiled egg and serves simply to antagonise, thwart, and put down her husband's former lifestyle. Unfortunately, throughout the many series and specials, Renwick's writing of the main female character playing opposite Creek has been deeply irritating to me as a woman. The characters of both Maddy and Carla were so similar it was possible to believe they were one and the same, despite excellent performances by Caroline Quentin and Julia Sawhala. My personal favourite was Joey, played by the wonderful Sherida Smith. A pity she was unable to join the show for a full series as her character is sweet, sassy, charming, quirky and appealing - plus, she can give Creek a run for him money when it comes to solving mysteries. All in all, I remain a fan of all the Creek canon, but still long for the days of Caroline Quentin, windmill living, and duffle coats.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
