    I dig

I needed to replace the broken handles for my garden fork and spade. These ones were very fairly priced in comparison with other traders, well-made and of good quality. Highly recommended.

  • Most critical review

    Just as expected.

A perfectly functional spade handle, the wooden shaft is solid, robust, and fit for purpose and the plastic handle is likewise strong and comfortable in the hand. The taper on the shaft needed to be worked to create a good fit with my spade, and that is totally acceptable and I expected to do that. The plastic handle had sharp bits of plastic sticking out which were uncomfortable when gripped. As the handle is moulded by plastic injection, these sharp bits are the 'flash' that remains after the item is removed from the mould. Quality control might have ensured that these were eliminated at manufacture. These too were shaved off with a sander and although this was not difficult to do it does illustrate that even very minor issues can be irritating when frequently handled. As long as you don’t expect everything to be perfect all the time then this handle was exactly as expected and fit for purpose, after a bit of work.

  • Just a handle. at the end of the day,

Shaft was very long and no rivet supplied to fix to spade blade - but managed to get it to fit after several hours with a spoke shave, and gradually reducing the length, (Only had the spade blade with broken stub of original shaft - hence the long refit time) Made my own rivet from left over kitchen unit joiner - nice flat head - with allen key - flattened other end with hammer. Value - Priced within competitor price - Quality - Finished with a Varnish coat- rather than plain wood.

  • Does the Job Fine

Needed this for an old but good fork where the original handle had snapped off just at the handle entry point. Drilled out the old rivet and the remainder of the handle and this one went straight in. A few hard knocks between the tines with a heavy hammer to seat it right in and then drilled for a 6mm nut bolt and spring washer. Rivet ok for factory assembly but not necessary for a home repair. Fork is over 25 years old now as good as new again. The wood that the handle is made from is not as tough as the original as I think that was hickory or similar....but for £6 who's complaining....certainly not me. Wife is so pleased especially as it's hers...as the picture shows.

  • Cheaper than a new Spade , Shovel or Fork

Obviously this handle is to fit numerous sizes of spades ,shovels and forks, so it needs a bit larger to fit them all. It can be a hard /difficult to cut and sand the shaft down to fit. Still a good buy though.

  • Good value for money. Cheaper than a new spade.

The tapered end was slightly smaller in diameter than my spade but with the aid of my bench vice I made it a decent fit. I thought the shaft was made of red pine and it seems strong enough for general garden digging. I used it in my garden and I am satisfied with its performance.

  • Excellent choice at a reasonable price

I have fitted this handle to a tool which is a cross between a spade, a hoe and an axe. It's been tested in every way possible and has stood up to everything. What more could you ask for.

  • Value product

Ok for the price but feels very light for a hardwood shaft and soon starts flex with a bit if leverage. Suitable for occasional use but would question how well it stand up to daily work. Having said that, more expensive shafts I have bought don't last so guess you pays your money. . . .
