They don't write stories like this anymore
I truly loved Jeanette Oaks Canadian West series. So much so that I ordered the books in the The Prairie Legacy. These stories are of the incredibly strong moral and physical people who settled the Canadian north country. Just surviving was a full time job and it was brutal. It humbles me and reminds me how privileged we now are and how those before me paved the long hard road opening possibilities many take for granted now. Imagine trudging out in the frozen earth then having to chisel ice to melt on the stove which had to be kept full of wood. No running to the store to get what they felt like eating that day or flipping a switch to turn a light on or turn the heat up. I highly recommend her books. Easy to read and get engrossed in. Also,they are clean reading which is hard to find these days. Just great entertainment
