ReviewsBack at Nava Jeevan, Asra and I were each shown a bewitching little red photograph album that the people offering to become our new families had made. Inside were pictures of them, their houses and other aspects of their lives-I looked through mine with my eyes popping out of my head. The people looked so different from what I was used to-they were white! And everything around them looked shiny, clean and new. Some of the things I'd never seen before, and the staff explained to Asra and me what they were, reading us the English captions. In my book it said: 'This is your father washing our car, in which we will visit many places.' They had a car! 'This is the house that will be our home.' It was very grand, with lots of glass windows, and it looked brand new. The book was even addressed to me: 'Dear Saroo.' The family, I was told, were called Mr and Mrs Brierley.

Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home, and pore over satellite images for landmarks he might recognize or mathematical equations that might further narrow down the labyrinthine map of India. • A Long Way Home

This is a great book. It has even been made into a movie, titled "Lion." It' s the fascinating story of a five-year-old boy in India who gets separated from his brother. The little one gets whisked away, alone and afraid, on a train he gets on to look for his older brother. He is separated from his family for the next 26 years! He is adopted by a couple in Australia who is very good to him. However, the day comes when he starts to wonder about his birth family. He remembers certain things about his childhood, even though his life changed dramatically at a very tender age. The writing in this book is great and it's a terrific story. It certainly demonstrates the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity. Great book. I loved it. Now I'm going to donate my copy to my local library so others can read it.

  • Truth is truly More Amazing than fiction

Saroo Brierly writes a compelling memoir of how he survived as a 5 year old, on the streets of Calcutta, India, until rescued and then adopted by Australian parents. Then, he miraculously, with the help of Google Earth, finds his birth family in India, including his mother, and two siblings.

  • The Memory Keeper

That a very young child should have such powerful memory is almost beyond belief! I read this book quickly and still marvel that it was a true story. The fact that his adoptive parents were so intuitive is also amazing. Perhaps having an early childhood that made him responsible for a sibling and also for finding food to exist caused this impressive memory. His persistence truly paid off.
