Over 75,000 FX4's were manufactured since it was released in 1958 and production ran for nearly 40 years. The Austin FX4 became a very familiar sight on the streets of London.
Oxford Diecast's model 76FX4001 is of a black FX4 or as often alternatively known as 'Classic London' Taxi in 1/76 Scale. This is ideal for OO Gauge railway layouts which is how I first became utterly HOOKED on these small wonders.
The characteristics are amazing and nicely represented in this small scale. Enough to remind me of one famous episode of the Soap Opera 'EastEnders' from 2002 when Charlie Slater had just come onto the scene as a Black Cab driver where one of his best one-liners appeared as a stern 'Now DON'T do it AGAIN!' to Dodgy Mo! That should say a lot about how the plus points of this particular FX4 serve as a reminder of something like that from over 17 years ago! These were not just used in London though so you can use any excuse you like to put one of these on your layout which should not be without one IMHO. Inevitably mine has picked up the name 'Charlie' and it doesn't look at all out of place on my 1980s themed layout. Oxford: It's a 10 from me!!!
