Ann, a reclusive woman with an obsession with butterflies is befriended by a young woman called Alice. They soon develop a close relationship but little does Ann know that Alice is luring her into her own twisted world. Ann discovers that she is not the only person Alice has befriended and led on and is soon confronted by the others women. This shock brings out a hidden past in Ann and awakens a dark beast inside her. In a spiral of madness, Ann commits a series of bizarre crimes to which the only witness is the daughter of her next door neighbour, Julie. Will anyone believe that a pleasant recluse like Ann could commit these crimes?
