Used to play this game a lot when I was younger, I remember enjoying the different kinds of races and maps so I decided to buy this since I lost my original disc. It's as good and looks as good as I remember, but the controls are the loss point for me. I don't remember the steering, acceleration, and braking being super jerky and late to respond. Even after pretty much getting rid of the dead zones and turning the sensitivity to10, it still doesn't control that well. Maybe nostalgia is clouding my memories, but overall the game is still great.

I decided to buy the game because I really seem to like the racing genre and the NFS series has a pretty good history. I have only had the game for a day now but I already have a pretty good idea of what I like and dislike about the game. The positives are that the graphics are fantastic, the driver's view is the best from this angle I have ever seen, the races are competitive, the variety of cars available is fairly good, the upgrades are everything you would expect, the sound quality is really realistic. The negatives are that there is basically no tutorial so it is a little difficult getting into the game, especially the non-race styles (i.e. drifting). The game's loading times could be better, they seem to take a long time. There is a type of race in which you race 1 on 1 with a different manufacturer's vehicle, this type of race is much more difficult as compared with the regular races. Customizing the paint and vinyls on the car's isn't as good as one would expect. There is no multiplayer (other than Xbox Live)! Also, the game is strictly track racing, in the other NFS games there was generally a lot of street racing but in Shift it is completely absent. Overall I would give the game a 4/5, if it had multiplayer then I would give it a 5/5 but alas, the game's makers left out that option.Read full review
I bought this game in the hope that it would beat other Need for Speed games I have such as Carbon and Hot Pursuit. I like the selection of cars and available upgrades in this game better than the previous ones. However, the only major downside for me is that there is no freeroam mode outside of the formal racing. This is definitely an easier game to beat than Carbon or Hot Pursuit, but this is not a setback for me because I'm sure that the great selection of cars and events will keep me occupied for a long time. 4 out of 5 stars is generous for this game. If I could, I would rate it somewhere in the 3.5 star range. This is a good buy if you can get it for cheap.
Great game! I am a racing game enthusiast and have wanted this one for a long time. This is a really good simulation racer. It does have a lack of cars when compared to the Forza series...but the cars it does have are pretty cool and very detailed. especially the interior views! Another thing I liked, is the sense of speed you get while driving fast. The screen begins to blur a bit and the driver gets this kind of "tunnel vision" thing going on. It adds a really nice touch to the overall experience. In the end I definately recommend this title to any racing gamer who wants a simulation feel to their game.
The game is fun but slightly on the "arcade" side of things when compared to games such as Forza 3. If you are in the mood to advance rapidly through vehicles then you can't beat it. The selection of cars is limited and some of the cars and stats on them do not accurately mimic life conditions. For instance, NFS finally puts Hondas in a game but doesn't do enough research on them. The Honda Civic Si is almost faster than the S2000. The S2000 should be a highly competitive in many of the racing tiers, however it is not and is only truly useful in the drifting scenarios. All in all its a fun video game and the sounds and physics of the game are done extremely well but if you are looking for a more drawn out racing form then look elsewhere.
