quality valve pre amp
this is a really nice unit that can fit inside of a 1U case the frequency response is mostly flat flat across the audio rangebut has a slight top boost I estimate the gain to be about 2 or 3 DB without adding any distortion I am using this as a buffer in the first stage of my guitar rack it could easily be used as the basis of a home made amp or pre amp it would only need a tone stack and a volume control so to make a one channel guitar preamp its a case of a 1 meg log pot for the volume into the first channel of the preamp then a tone stack and into the second channel then a 500k log pot for the output volume. easy but you do want an accurate 12 ac supply, I needed to remove 20 turns from a 35va 12-0-12 toroidal to get the correct voltage and just used one of the 12v ouVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great tube pre-amp for a good price.
It might not be the smallest tube pre-amp, but small circuit boards can often overheat, especially since there are tubes involved. It's not huge by any standard, and will fit in a 1032L enclosure. It's simple to power, and simple to connect up.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Cheap but well built and sounds good,
It is actually really nice. The only thing that I recommend is good cables and to avoid the mounted terminals, I ended up soldering the cables to the board from under the terminals, it reduced the noise A LOT. So far I tried GE, Westinghouse and Russian tubes and it sounds great with them, the stock tubes are OK but as good as old new stock ones. For the price this sounds great, it is in the actual sound path, so if you turn this off the sound fades alongside the temperature in the heater till total silence in like 15 seconds. Give your passive preamp a boost
I got this 6J1 Valve PreAmplifier to give my passive preamp a boost. Not only did it give it a boost but the sound is much warmer. Giving a palpable presence to vocals. Not to mention a much stronger bass. The preamp is super quiet and runs cool to the touch. I installed it inside an alluminium case I got off Ebay. I made shure that the inside dementions would fit. This review is with about 5 hrs of running time. I just cant imagine when it will be 200 hrs or more of burn in time. Very highly recommended. AAA+++
