A fascinating, comprehensive walk-through Chinese Evolution over 3000 years from the Terracotta Men to the Cultural Revolution
This is an absorbing, comprehensive and yet succinct, telling of the history of China from 3000 BC to the present time. Whilst conveying what is a great deal of information, it has less of a documentary flavour and is much more like a travelogue of peoples, times and places in China.
It is long, comprising six full-length episodes, each covering a major epoch/dynasty in chronological sequence with the notable exception of the Mongolian Yuan Dynasty which has to be intentional and possibly because it isn't considered a true Chinese dynasty. The final episode is dedicated to the fall of the last dynasty and the complex internecine and international developments that morphed China into today's People's Republic.
The visually rich imagery and the wealth of information offered in the narration make this a DVD that one can return to multiple times. Highly recommended and well worth the price*
*cheaper versions are available on a number of sites-this is because they are not REGION 2 and only play on multi regional DVD players
