Time-honoured tech!
If you need to monitor room humidity the I guess you could say the Mason's Pattern Hygrometer is certainly proven technology. My need-to-know concerns re-homing loads of Kodachrome transparencies, negs and paper prints (c.1964 to 79). I borrowed an industrial hand-held psychrometer for a weekend to see how close the readings are. Well, in the 14 to 24 degrees C range they're are amazingly accurate. I'd assume they are similarly accurate over more extreme ranges gardeners might encounter in the greenhouse. Since laws of physics tend not to change much! This particular hygrometer is by Zeal. A UK company who appear to supply a huge range of technical instruments (met, laboratory, environmental etc etc) to the trade and public alike. It's large, with a lovely clear and easy to read scale. Can easily interpolate to halves of a degree by eye if you like. Got a quality look about and feel about it. The supplied tables are printed rather small, I think. OK in bright daylight. I am getting on a bit though and probably can't focus up close like I did. I scanned them and ran off A4 enlargements on an inkjet. Definitely gets an unconditional 5 stars from me. A real hygrometer (not a digital one).
It is a sad comment on today's obsession with digital technology that if you do an internet search for 'hygrometer' you're shown digital devices. If you want a real hygrometer you have to search for 'wet bulb hygrometer'. This is one such. It does what it says using simple non-electronic physics. You don't have to cross your fingers and hope it's telling the truth (as is the case with digital ones). You can see for yourself how and why it works. This hygrometer is what I wanted, it does what I want, and I'm satisfied with the purchase. Put it on a hook on a wall or, as I have done, screw the frame to a portable board so it can be moved around. Just be careful to keep it upright when moving it, as otherwise water will come out of the small wet-bulb reservoir.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Nice product. It is a shame that the wet side thermometer has been glued to the back (scale) sheet approx 0.4 degree C higher than the dry thermometer. (ie - gives a higher reading).
