Product Information
This book charts the story of this 'market hall' for rail travel from its earliest days to the present. In the 1840s, when its origins began, three railway companies vied for the site and for control of profitable lines along the East Coast, to Fife and to Glasgow. As passenger numbers have soared, it is busier than ever but its valley location has restricted expansion. The refurbishment taken forward by Network Rail, and put on record here, has involved reconstruction of the extensive roof, of Waverley Steps, of the Market Street entry, concourses and platforms. There has also been an increase in capacity for trains, an upgrade of station utilities and access improvement -- projects completed while the station was open for business and train services ran.Product Identifiers
