The 2662 Mallets are beautiful but have poor performance and pulling capability.
The basic problem is that it does not have any speed, moves very slow. It appears a grease lubricant was used on the internal gears and it has hardened and is creating significant resistance. It is also possible that the wheel electrical contacts (there are 6) are creating too much resistance.
When I set upside down and establish electrical contact to only two wheels, the motors work fine and it has significant speed. Is it too heavy, are the motors worn, what is the problem? I will keep it and do what I can to resolve the problem. I have taken the gear housing cover off the bottom and am trying to remove as much grease as possible and replace with a modern non petroleum light lubricant. I am also wondering why it was necessary to have 6 electrical pickups when my contacts on only two wheels seemed to work great.
I just think the shoes on track work better and these 2662 mallets have too much going on to have any pulling capacity.
