Amazing story with important history
My godfather who was at Cassino told me about Woytek 60 years ago. This unusual story is a good read in itself, but the background history of the Polish people at the time is intriguing disturbing and important to remember as their losses and tragedy were so vast but somehow lost. The accompanying commentary is well written and does this aspect justice. The relationship between Britain and Poland was complex and show that in war morality is low down the list of priorities. Subsequent writing of history is always directed by the winners, however those are defined. Some of it may be a true account but only seen with one eye. This book helps redress the balance a little. Even if politics is not your main interest, the story of Woytek is a great read.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
