  • The full monty

Though skipping over some of the depths - impossible not to, even in a book this thick - it covers the whole range of web programming using HTML5 and CSS3. It also covers the essential parts of server-side (PHP) and client-side (JavaScript) programming and basic database integration. The format is accessible and has plenty of useful tips. As the code used is available online, it’s easy to see how to achieve a desired result. Don’t be put off by the size of this book. After all, it is several books in a single volume. The flip side is that it might be easier to use as a set of separate volumes, but that would probably put the price up.

  • HTML & CSS3 By Andy Harris Review

Another great book by Andy Harris, to be honest I've been in the programming/computing game for years but I still find the Dummies series of books by this guy a great reference because most topics you can get to grips within 1/2 a page or so; lets face it when your working who has the time to sit and read 3 or 4 pages of gumph. Perhaps the only criticism I have is that Andy wrote another good book called HTML, XHTML and CSS a few years ago now but quite a lot of that book has simply been copied into this one. But to be fair if you only have the one book your not going to notice anyway. I imagine technical books are difficult to write in the first place let alone keep interesting but Andy Harris is about the best I have found so far to transcend this issue. All in all a great book that I would recommend as a reference, if your learning this stuff from scratch I would also recommend it but you may also do your self a favour by getting a more in depth reference as well on your specialist subjects.
