Strange how, at the time I liked Ballardinelli and loathed McMahon, and now? Ballardinelli’s artwork is less impressive and McMahons is absolutely astonishing! Slaine was a very mixed-bag as far as artists went, and sometimes the transition was jarring. It is interesting that in the intro, Mills suggests that all three in this volume came in for a surprising amount of criticism, some of it rather vehement, from fans and general readership. It would never have occurred to me at age 15 to write in to express my displeasure, but apparently many did. My copy has some pages that did not print well, the blacks rather faint, which was disappointing.
