  • Complete guide to the night sky for all times and seasons

To be fair, it's a little overpriced, but given the choice between good and bad for value, it's definitely more good than bad. The Planisphere as a design has been around for a long time, but that's the beauty of the product. What you get is a nicely produced folder on laminated card, giving the history of planispheres and full instructions for use. There are brief summaries of the main night-time features for each season, and also a directory from 2013 to 2022 for where to find the four brightest plantets - Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Hopefully, Collins might provide an update for this from 2023 onwards, although the information is not hard to find out otherwise. Inside the folder is the planisphere itself, which is a picture of the night sky covered by a rotating circle which allows you to see what is actually visible for a given date and time. That's the clever thing, as otherwise you would need dozens of separate charts - here it is all done with one. It's easy to learn how to use, and a good size both for transporting and for reading easily. Beautifully produced.
