About this product

Product Information

Count Arthur Strong tells the story of his extraordinary journey from his humble early years as the only son of a contortionist in wartime Doncaster to the dizzy heights and excesses of fame as one of the shining lights of popular entertainment. Count Arthur Strong is a show business legend, after-dinner speaker and a leading authority on Ancient Egypt, having been stationed there during his nation service. He has countless friends in the showbiz world. People like Barry Cryer, the white haired one with glasses off 'I'm Sorry I Haven't Got A Clue' and 'Jokers Wild'. This is his first volume, of what he believes may be a 6 volume collection, of his memoirs. He has a few select dates still available for anything (except window cleaning) and is represented, (if you can call it that) by Richard Daws at Komedia Entertainment. (Or if you want to go directly through me and pay cash, I can do that as well.) (In fact I prefer that.) Thank you.ABOUT THIS BOOK: Technical information: It was written on a typewriter, on paper and then posted to Faber and Faber and Faber. Then they turned it into a book. At a factory? The book is literally a compilation of selected letters from the alphabet formed into words, sentences, paragraphs and then chapters. And they still haven't paid me for the postage. I do hope you enjoy reading it. And I look forward to one day reading it back myself, time permitting. Thank you.

  • Count Arthur's memoirs

As a fan of the Count, I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book and I wasn't disappointed. It's a wonderfully comic read. If you can picture Arthur whilst reading it then you'll get the true sense of the sometimes subtle humour that's there. He's scribbled little notes and shopping lists into the margins too for good measure. I thoroughly recommend this book, and do get the hardback copy if you can; it has a lovely feel and I love the photo of him on the cover wistfully thinking what other delights of his (concocted) memoirs to write next. I do hope there will be more installments to come.

  • This is hilarious

I love this book so much that I bought a copy for a friend of mine who was recovering from her hip operation to cheer her up during her recovery. Each chapter is short so you can dip into it anytime. The writer mocks himself so cleverly yet you can imagine being in the room with him when he is writing this. I love all the daft reminders he pops on some of the pages showing how easy the mind wanders when you are writing. Brilliant and daft. I love it.

  • Count on this

Great fun if you appreciate the count. Probably total rubbish if you don't. Did he ever buy the stamps or the liver - or the Tippex for that matter?

  • Count Arthur

I've been listening to count Arthur Strong's radio show for a good few year's now and when I found out that he'd written his memoirs I just had to have it. This raconteur, humble & honest celebrity in his own mind has so much to tell about his early days, that you can see him becoming the next prime minister or leader of the obstrician, obstruction, no opposition! should he chose. His talent is limitless. And it's full of tips. Worth listening to the audible version on it's own or whilst reading.
