    Pyrography Kit

I wanted to use this kit to mark wood turned bowls and other items - with type of wood mainly. For this purpose it works well enough. The main problem is that the fine tips become soft when at full heat and must be treated very gently otherwise they bend. You dont discover this until it is too late. This was discussed with the supplier and resolved. It suits my purpose very well but prolonged use might be a problem - the user should be aware of this. The quality is reflected in the price - I dont need anything better and I am satisfied with what I have!

If only it had lasted a little longer

I had one job to do with this tool, and after a few practise uses I just barely managed to complete the job I bought it for before the tip snapped off leaving the unit completely unusable. While it worked it was good, and even though I was was very careful with it, aware that it was bending a little under use when it was hot, it still snapped. Each tip screws in for use, and screws out once it is cool to be replaced with a different tip. Since the tip I was using has snapped in half and the screw end is still inside the unit, I have had no choice but to put the whole thing in the bin.

  • Maybe I need practice and a longer lead

This has 2 settings 15w & 30w, the 15w doesn't seem to get hot enough to mark the wood while the 30w is very hot and if you don't keep it moving at a decent rate it over-burns the wood. The biggest problem I found was the power lead seems too short for me to hold it at a comfortable angle for "writing" when sitting at a table and the plug socket being at skirting board height. I probably need to practice more as my attempt at following writing that I had transferred to the wood did not go too well (to put it mildly!) For the cost, the quality is okay, and it comes with a good choice attachments

  • Great beginners tools!

I'm just a beginner at pyrography so I wanted to try this tool out. I'm very pleased. The pieces all seem good quality and sterdy especially for £10. I haven't played with it more that twice so I don't think I can give this 5 stars because I have a feeling it won't be the most lasting item. However, if you're just looking for something to get into this or something great for the price, I think this is perfect. 5 stars it included help with what each tool is for.

  • Very good

Very very good item. Very easy too use for a novice like myself. Just watch out for when it gets too hot... The tips become loose. You'll need a small set of pliers to re-tighten or change the tip mid use

  • Great starter item

Only a beginner, but I bought this in case I didn't get on with pyrography. I've found I have to use it on hottest setting, and the handle gets hot after 20 minutes use so I have to turn it off and wait and start the project again. Other than that, it's great value for money with the heads you get. I'd advise straightening out the cord completely before use as the cord doesn't swivel so that part gets annoying after a while if there's kinks in it.

  • Great for the money

Reading reviews, people complain that the handle gets hot, and it does a little. but for the money I think its great. I agree its not perfect, but what do you except for such a low price. Great value if you have never used one before and want to try it out.

  • Excellent value for money

Having read some of the reviews on this product which were a bit mixed I decided to take the risk for the sake of a tenner and give it a go. It is brilliant for a beginner like me who wasn't sure how to use one. It is easy and you soon get better with practice. Yes it gets very hot as you can imagine but you just have to take care with it. The rest holder that comes with it is essential. The smaller finer nibs dont handle prolonged heat very well and if you're not aware of this then they will bend or even snap. However I found that the larger nibs are absolutely fine and are happy to be in use for hours at a time. A useful tip is to have a pair of pliers handy to gently tighten the nibs which can loosen as you use it. To sum up this product I would say you can do an awful lot of work with it for very little money and if pyrography is something that you really enjoy then investing in a more expensive tool might well be your next step but this is really superb for beginners or small jobs.

  • Smokin' !

It works well, and there are lots of attachments, so you can burn a variety of shapes, and these can be combined to make patterns. It's quite awkward to write or draw with, as you have to hold it at right angles to the wood, and draw a line as a succession of dots or blobs, rather than in a smooth movement, as you would with a pencil.

  • Disappointed

First impressions were good but the more I used the tool the more disappointed I became. The problem is the the way that the interchangeable tool heads screw into the handset. They become loose after a time and seem very soft. After using the tool for a while one of the tips broke leaving the base jammed into the handset. The only way I could try and make the tool useable again was to drill it out which ripped the thread and has now made the tool useless. A waste of money. Very disappointed.
