About this product

Product Information

An exciting cookbook to accompany Simon Hopkinson's first TV series. His new series, Simon Hopkinson Cooks is on More 4 now. Simon Hopkinson loves food and he knows how to cook it. The Good Cook is the result of over 40 years' experience and is based on Simon's belief that a good cook loves eating as much as cooking. How the ingredients you choose and the way you cook them will turn a good recipe into a great dish. That a cheap cut of meat cooked with care can taste as nice as a choice cut prepared by indifferent hands. Structured around Simon's passion for good ingredients (Anchovy and Aubergine, Cheese and Wine, Smoked and Salted Fish, Ham, Bacon and A Little Pig) and written with Simon's trademark perfectionism and precision, this is a cookbook that you will cherish for life.

    Excellent

Appears to be a re presentation of ‘roast chicken’ ie same content set out in a more contemporary style with pictures. So suggest buy one or the other. An excellent book with very very good recipes. Simon Hopkinson is an entertaining writer too.

  • Most critical review

Not great value, especially if you own his previous books

Simon Hopkinson is a great cook and cookery writer with an excellent repertoire of classic recipes but this book seems insubstantial. Large blank pages for chapter headers and many photos spread out the recipes, a good few of which are repeated from his “Roast Chicken...” books. So, if this is your first of his books and you can buy for a few pounds it’s worth it for some engaging food writing and delicious recipes, but if you already own his previous publications I wouldn’t bother.

  • Excellent

If you want a cook book by a real cook, buy this one. In my opinion, Simon is the best cook in this country, at least.

  • written by a master not just a good cook

saw a couple episodes of the tv programme this book is the source for and was impressed how it combined simple recipes like rice pudding and neck of lamb with carrot and pearl barley and risotto with a wide range of recipes for a modern audience. Ideal for someone who doesn't have many cookbooks or someone who wants recipes that work and cover every possible meal
