I have so far only read Chapter 8 (Lipoprotein Effects) but I found it fascinating, and the authors are able to write with authority because of their extensive clinical experience of Low Carb diets and how the human body reacts to them. Some people describe Low Carb diets as "Fads" implying there is no scientific or logical basis for them, but Drs Volek and Phinney (who are amply qualified) have performed appropriate clinical research and can explain the relevant biological mechanisms. Among other things, Chapter 8 "Lipoprotein Effects" explains why saturated fat in the blood and body tissue (not at all healthy) comes from eating excess carbohydrate (and not dietary saturated fat). Also, how cardiovascular disease risk will decrease when someone starts a Low Carb High Fat diet, and why lipid biomarkers will improve. I wasn't sure initially whether buying this book was worthwhile, but having read some of it I am extremely pleased I have!Read full review
