Good idea, gets the coals right and in good time.
The only downside is that you need two of them for a big BBQ, unless you want differing heats from adding in with a bigger BBQ. My third one I've bought over three years, all are still in good order. Pop a two inches of sand in the BBQ (just once), and cover it with two layers of foil to right up the sides. Keep coals away from the side when empying this device, after use of BBQ (when cool) just wrap up ashes in the foil and bin, give this device a tap, and pop a cover on the whole lot (will alst years then).Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Too small
The principle of the chimney is good and it works well, but unfortunately it does not hold enough charcoal to make a good BBQ. A better idea is something I have used in Greece, which is a large metal funnel that you place over a pile of charcoal that is lit in the traditional manner using kindling, lighter blocks, etc. This works on the same principle as the chimney, but can work on larger quantities of charcoal and in my experience, is quicker and therefore more efficient.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Much easier than messing about piling up your coals. The leaflet says only 2 sheets of news paper rolled underneath up is plenty, it wasn't. I just popped under a couple of fire lighters and walked away for about 15 mins. May try it with more paper next time. It seems large so I didn't fill it quite to the top when I used it but for the size of my bbq (a barrel size) I will fill it right up next time. Nice lighting system at the right size
Works really well, good construction and is the right size. Don't go for the small ones. 3 newspaper sheets rolled in at it will work like a charm.
