Pretty good sound, and under a hundred bucks.
I like the physical size (not too large or small), and while not an extreme “thumper” by any means, it has a good bass sound if you don’t max out the volume. You’ll experience a slight bit of distortion if you do. It’s also what I consider a pretty good value, as I got mine for under a hundred dollars (US). I guess my biggest gripe (if you want to call it that) is I feed this thing with my iPhone’s various apps. My phone has a little battery feature that tells how much juice is left in the phone, as well as whatever is paired with it. For some strange reason, this speaker, while it pairs easily, and functions flawlessly, will NOT show up on my phones screen to let me know how much battery power remains in my speaker, which ultimately leads to the thing shutting down while you’re listening to it (this may end up ultimately being more to do with my phone than with the speaker, so don’t let this be a negative factor in your decision). I guess a good thing is the fact that the battery life, at the moment, is quite long. I listen to it for several hours daily, and have only charged it once weekly (except for that first time I spoke of earlier). It comes in a variety of colors too (I chose black though). Not bad but not the best.
Product functioned as intended. In terms of sound quality, JBL could have done better. Bass is heavy even with the bass boost feature disabled. The mids and highs are not well defined and seem weak. There are better speakers with a similar price tag.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

BUY IT!
The speaker arrived on time and was factory sealed in the JBL box that reminded me of a brand new iphone. The packaging was absolutely exquisite and so beautiful I would feel too guilty to throw it away. Besides it has a magnetic closure and the box is sturdy enough it will make a great place to store the machine. The speaker itself is that of a work of art with tasteful attention to detail and an obvious rugged heavy construction. LED lights highlight some of the buttons and status. The sound..... Oh the sound! Yes it brings back memories of boom boxes of the 90s but with MORE performance! If you are not familiar with these and heard one playing in another room you would expect to walk in to see a full size stereo. The bass is deep and rich with a surprising range for the size. The mids and highs are full and crisp. Excellent total sound! It is easy to set up and use and I so look forward to enjoying this awesome little boomer! Yes. Buy it. Way to go JBL!
I have been a fan of jbl charge series since the two model. The 2 plus gave an overall boost in presence. In fact for my ears the 2 plus is more satisfying than charge 3. I found it muddy for mid range and far less sharpness and that all important presence. I bought a pair of charge 4s. They were only $110. Canadian (refurbished). I don’t think they were more than just taken out of the box. I had read several reviews and the ratings varied from average to excellent. I listen to a lot of choral and female vocalists music.Sarah Brightman is the gold standard. Her range is incredible and much of her music is heavily orchestrated. I only had to listen to one tune from her LP Symphany and knew JBL charge 4 will be the new benchmark. The midrange isn’t over bearing nor is it heavy and muddy like the 3’s. The presence is best ever. I’m going to love listening to my choral music even more. By the way, I’m 77 male and wear hearing aids. my audiologist tells me that in wearing them my hearing is excellent. Way to go JBL. Charge 4 is Ok but consider this..............................
The Charge 4 sits in the middle of two other JBL Bluetooth portable speakers. The Flip 4 and the Xtreme 2. I wanted to move up from the Flip 4 to the Charge 4 because I wanted a bigger sound and some bass. The Flip 4 is clean and sounds good for the money but for the current price of the Charge 4 I Was not impressed. It has a clean sound and maybe a little more bass. It has a single speaker rather than dual drivers and I noticed that. It was not the big upgrade I envisioned. So for the price of an original JBL Xtreme which is just a little more then a full priced Charge 4 or at the current discount of an Xtreme 2 this is a major, major, upgrade. Much bigger sound, much better bass but not boomy. By the way I think two Flip 4s in party or stereo mode (spread out a little) is a better bigger sound then one Charge 4. The Xtreme 2 will not leave you wanting any more. I even heard the Boombox which is the next step up from the Xtreme 2 and I think the Xtreme 2 is slightly clearer sounding. Can't compete with the bass of the boombox though. Best bang for the buck is an Xtreme2 at a discount right now! Hope this helps. Nothing wrong with the Charge 4 otherwise, it is well built. Value for Money Speaker
Product is so great, except for the lack of microphone, google assistant or amazon alexa. JBL app is basically to control volume. Loud, clear, waterproof, long-lasting, and nicely designed.
I haven't stopped using it since I got it. I love it. It takes a few hours to charge but it will last 2 days on that charge or more depending on how much I am using it. It is loud, and clear, and far more powerful than I thought it would be.
