Great lightweight charger with a very useful screen

Works exactly like i expected it to, and while charging speed is somewhat slow at 0.5A/battery, the display is very informative and easy to understand. It's a great unit if you only need to charge 2 batteries at a time, especially if you run 2 pairs and can alternate between pairs so one is always on charge. The product itself feels physically quite sturdy although it is quite light, possibly due to the plastic materials used. It does not feel like it would break due to mishandling or a drop though. The spring-loaded battery contact points are very strong so will keep the batteries in place even if shook upside down, and I believe it could keep them secure even if dropped from a reasonable height (although this is untested to me). The actual movement is smooth although somewhat stiff, but the tension is fairly uniform so you don't need much effort to push the batteries in the last bit.

  • Most critical review

    Some potential, several problems.

This product has one particular problem, which is the 1A USB current limitation. With the right USB adaptor, USB can supply 2.4A. Most lithium cells this product will be used with would be quite happy being charged at 1A as opposed to 0.5A. I'm charging Panasonic NCR18650B batteries, and the data sheet refers to a standard charge current of 0.5C, which is 1.625A. Charging at 1A would make a huge difference to the usefulness of the product because it would halve the time to charge. This limitation is spelled out in the product details, but I feel it's worth drawing attention to because of it's significant impact. It is not at all clear that this product is charging batteries to their full capacity. The instructions do not describe how to interpret the information provided by the display. Is the 'charge' measurement telling me the charge state of the battery, or just the charge that has been supplied by the device ?. I think it's the latter, but in this case I cannot use it to tell if charging is complete. There also appears to be a bug in the display, because after a period of charging at 4.2V the rate of increase in the charge measurement slows very significantly ( which is expected ), yet the current indicator stays on maximum ( 0.5A ). This doesn't add up. What should happen after reaching 4.2V is that the charge current starts to drop rapidly, with a corresponding reduction in the rate of increase of charge. So overall, this product is disappointing. It works, but it's not as smart as the packaging tries to make you believe, the user interface is not useful, and not using the full current available from USB is just a big frustration.

  • Xtar Li-Ion charger.

This is one of the safest chargers on the market for Li-Ion cells. Charging stops when the cell is fully charged, this extends the life of the cell and removes the risk of fire associated with overcharging. The LED display shows the condition of the cell when charging by displaying the approximate voltage, it also indicates when the cell is fully charged. The charging current is 0.5A so, if it is a high-capacity cell (not strictly speaking a battery as these are single cells) and it is very low on charge, charging will take a long time. This, however, is safer and will also prolong the life of your cells as they will not overheat. I have previously had two Xtar chargers, one is still working perfectly the other, which was more sophisticated and had variable charging levels and could also be used as a USB power source, has recently developed a minor fault but I did have several years of regular use from it. The charger will also recharge cells which have been over-discharged and have no measurable voltage by priming them for a few minutes. Most other chargers will just indicate a fault and will not attempt to rescue the cell.

  • Good charger screen set it apart.

When all is said and done it's a Li-Ion battery charger. The LCD Screen sets it apart from the rest and is very informative on the state of charge of the batteries. It does need a USB power source. I used a mains wall wart with USB outputs. This worked very well. The battery charger still takes quite a while to charge two batteries, around the three hour mark but the LCD screen lets you see how the charge is progressing, look at the mAH readout to gauge charge.

  • Battery charger

I had wasted so much money on cheaper battery chargers that are either unsafe or just don't charge the batteries properly. This one has exceeded my expectations and is very quick. It displays how much it has charged and is very easy to use. Well worth the money!

  • Brilliant

I never normally leave reviews, however I'm really impressed, I brought a cheap one previously and I was terrified it would explode, it had no dials etc. I'm so happy with this, it stops charging when it's full and shows you how charged each battery is! Such good value for money! Thank you!

  • VC2 Great Charger

I bought this because I was fed up with wondering how much life my E Pipe batteries had left in them. This told me straight away so I was able to get rid of 3 of them as duff. The charger is well made with a clear read out of the dials. I can recommended this item

  • Useful features but slow and USB only

Pros. display is information rich and easy to read. mAh reading enables yo to track the life of your batteries - and can help ascertain whether batteries you have just purchased is authentic or a clone / re-wrap 0.5A per channel is very good for maximum battery life Cons. instruction leaflet was in mandarin or cantonese not english USB input only - not so useful for those without USB wall sockets or mains USB adapters 0.5A per channel means slow charging only

  • Very handy gadget to have

I would be lost without this trusty charger as the batteries don’t fit in my normal one and I have two vapes that use batteries so I have always got spare charged up batteries that I carry in my bag. It lets me know when the batteries are fully charged by blinking at me.

  • Handy for charging Vape batteries

I bought this to charge vape batteries and it's perfect for my needs. The USB connection was a bonus and it's great to be able to charge 2 batteries at once. The readings when I charge my batteries is handy (once I got used to them) too. I took this on holiday to Italy and it held up perfectly connected to a European voltage too. The only slight downside was not having any information regarding the displayed readings when charging batteries. My son explained it to me but it would have been handy to include this in the box. I'm still giving it 5 stars though as it's a great product.
