NotesLee Jones is a improvisational/experimental Chapman Stick player. He uses a life long love of jazz, fusion, prog rock and electronic music as a basis for spontaneous melodic improvisation. All of the tunes on Spherical Music are unrehearsed, purely spontaneous recordings.The influences heard are diverse, and though improvised there is a stong sense of rhythm, melody and harmony. The Stick is a stereo instrument, so the melody side and the bass side can be recorded separately, much like a stereo keyboard. There is also the added element of the use of a Roland GR-33 guitar synthesizer on a few tracks. The MIDI pickup for the synthesizer takes the pitch and velocity data from the melody side of the stick and uses it to drive a synthesized voice that mirrors what is played on the melody side. Spherical Music is a grand experiment in the freedom of spontaneous expression, may you enjoy it!
