Rayman is a very good game, and the package "Rayman Designer" is also very nice, adding new levels and a level editor. "Rayman Gold" brings them both together. However, the UK release of "Rayman Gold" has one major blunder which, in my opinion, makes it lose a great part of its value - there is no music, only sound effects. They simply forgot to include the CD audio tracks on the CD! Also, since the release was originally intended for Windows 95/98, it may not work so well on modern operating systems, especially since some parts of it are actually DOS, and new Windows versions do not support DOS applications very well (or at all). The installer is for Windows, and so is the level editor (mapper) application, but the game itself runs in DOS. If you hope to run this on your pure DOS retro-machine (or via DOSBox emulator), you may also run into issues. The original Rayman game, which is included is 100% DOS (installer and game), but for the "Rayman Designer" part there seems to be no DOS installer supplied. You either have to use the Windows installer or copy the files manually. Overall, this release feels like a rushed mess, which is a shame, because the game itself is great. With some patience you can work your way around the issues, but you are probably better off hunting for a modern digital release, prepackaged and optimized for newer operating systems.Read full review

I bought this for my son when he was 7 as I was concerned about the aggression and violence in other games. He loved this. It was full of challenge and fun but without the need for ugly 'demonic' characters. It also showed that games did not have to involve guns and killing.
