Readers Digest issued several of these compilations some years ago, presumably with the intention of covering each year from 1960 to 1969, although it appears that they never managed to achieve this. RD is American-based and so one might expect some odd titles to appear which were not exactly well-known in the UK, but luckily there are very few and listeners will recognise almost all the 66 tracks on the triple CD set. The choice of Miki and Griff's version of "I want to stay here" is a bit odd as it was not the hit version (Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme) while the UK's Carol Deene did a far better cover. It was inevitable that The Exciters' version of "Tell Him" would make it onto this collection rather than the far better version by Billie Davis, but by and large this is a good snapshot of the music of 1963 and well worth a listen.Read full review
