  • even worse than Death & the Compass!!!

don't get me wrong, I LOVE Alex Cox! I am reassured to live in a world that has an Alex Cox in it. his presenting Moviedrome was always the high point of my week, until they replaced him with an anonymous stuttering git. & his films! Repo Man, Sid & Nancy, even Walker... I would rather watch a bad Alex Cox movie than a good Michael Bay movie... if there is such a thing? but despite having a good cast, The Winner sucks, it really does. I don't even want to say why, it is all too depressing. then again, Alex Cox DID disown the film, it should have had Alan Smithee as director in the credits, but doesn't for some reason. so that is alright then. I still haven't seen Revengers Tragedy or Repo Chick yet, & I suspect that I don't really want to... but I will anyway! oh, & The Winner DOES contain an Alex Cox cameo where he plays a strange nightclub employee who is pretending to be French... I am not sure if it is worth sitting through the rest of this awful film for that? decide for yourself! & wouldn't it have been great if opposite Gary Oldman, Tim Roth had played Johnny Rotten in Sid & Nancy, instead of the talentless nonentity they used? wouldn't it have been even greater to see the Alex Cox version of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas? (no disrespect to Terry Gilliam, it just WOULD.) but there is little in life more pointless than indulging in wishful thinking... except for wasting your time watching one of those stupid Transformers movies.
