  • 40s B-movie fare, w a lighthearted touch to its quasi-noir dramas.

The Lone Wolf is the nickname of the fictional character Michael Lanyard, a jewel thief turned private detective in a series of novels written by Louis Joseph Vance (1879–1933). A great number of movies based on and inspired by Vance's books have been made over the years. The LW's first appearance in film was in 1917, before sound, only three years after Vance's first novel appeared. The character was also later adapted to radio (1948) and television (1954). This series of 15 films, made between 1935 to 1949, featured 5 different actors as Lanyard, w Warren William in the middle 9, helping to establish some continuity to the studio's erratic story-telling about the character, veering away from Vance's original icon. This is 40s B-movie fare, w a lighthearted touch to the quasi-noir dramas. Fun to watch period pieces in spite of the studio's over-packed story-telling: too many sub-plots w irrelevant characters that pull attention away from the primary drama, as the studios looked to build a wide range of movie viewers for its lead character and his stories. This period icon character deserves your attention and its place in your movie library.

  • Very entertaining!

Entertaining movies, the quality is better than I expected on most of the movies, and those that are of less quality (only a few) the makers have put in a disclaimer and are willing to replace with a better quality copy if one ever becomes available.
