Buy it if you use a lansky sharpener. I wish my set came with this or I knew it existed sooner. It grips the knife securely and it will save your blade from unnecessary scratches or you from the trouble of trying to make something to protect it.

Lansky at one time was made in the USA, this item was made in China and it shows. it's made from a very cheap alloy. it's extremely light and brittle. the screws don't turn smoothly. the plastic caps on the screwheads are made of low quality plastic. I have a Lansky sharpening kit and let me tell you this is NOT the clamp from a kit. it may work, but the quality is NOT up to par. also this clamp is about a half an inch shorter than the one that comes in a kit. doesn't seem like much until you try to sharpen a knife with a blade that is about a inch wide or less. the hone will hit the clamp and miss the knife blade or hit both and throw off your edge. do yourself a favor,,,buy a good quality clamp, don't buy this cheap imitation.

I, personally, bought this clamp hoping that the larger, plastic covered, clamp screw would be easier to use for older, arthritic fingers. It would be, had they not designed the new clamp with the clamp screw in a curved depression.

All metal, smaller guide rod holes are more precise, didn't have to buy whole new kit-- used stones from Smith's kit.
