The manual with this item claims that the base is cast iron. It's too light. More likely aluminium or some alloy, so it will need bolting down to be used safely. Otherwise as long as all handle bolts are fully tightened it will be better at drilling vertical holes than having no drill stand at all. At the price I paid (discount plus voucher applied) it seems a reasonable purchase.

Have recieved the stand but haven't used it seriously yet. 1. Recommend it. Yes/No. It looks very tidy and not a cumbersom unit. 2. Value. I suppose for all the cost of it I suppose. 3. Quality. Well I think it's not built for heavy usage. I would suggest very light duties as I think where the tubular is secured to base the cast is very light and not to sa durable standard.

Light construction but a nice item. Drill carriage is a good fit on shaft so no play. Shaft actually needs a little grease to operate really smoothly. Best used bolted or screwed down.

Ideal for lightweight jobs, I used it 10mm holes in 85mm thick timber. Good value for money.

Well this is a good bit of kit which makes straight drilling a lot easier and it holds a slotted vice which is very useful only 1 drawback is that this one has a slightly warped base but when clamped down it is perfectly okay.
