Emits an annoyingly loud, high-pitched whining sound.
The fans emit a high-pitched whining sound that kind of sounds like a loud "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." It sounds like coil whine on a graphics card, only it's not a graphics card, but three small fans. Not sure how well they work in terms of cooling, as I removed the fans after a day. Positives: •Fits in a 5.25" drive bay, which is exactly what I needed it for. •Can be used to cool a hard drive. Louder than it's performance
I own a Dell Optiplex 7010 MT. I bought two of these for the Optical Drive Bays I don't use. You'd think it'd be a simple "plug it in" type of installation. I was wrong. First and foremost, the outside of these fans, are rounded. I don't know why they would go with a rounded shape. I've never seen a rounded drive bay, have you? So needless to say, they didn't fit next to each other, well, not well at least. Due to the terrible design, I had to push these fans further into the drive bays than I would have liked, causing a large gap between the outside chassis and the internal bays. Installation was terrible, and nothing but a hassle. I do NOT recommend more than one of these, if you plan on using them in close proximity. To top off an overdrawn installation, they are REALLY loud. Sometimes they vibrate so much I think they're broken. Making an awful variety of noises in addition to the loud fans, they are annoying to listen to. And then performance. They work, I'll give them that. But they don't work that well. Because I own a MT, it's a hard choice between having these loud, clunky, terrible looking fans, or having no intake fans at all. With no 'real' experience with modifying a case, these are probably the best option for those who can't add in their own fans. Altogether, they dropped my internal temperatures by about 2 degrees Celsius. So...1 each. Which is about as much as I expected. So, to sum it all up, I'd say they're not really "worth" the price tag. They perform "OK" for what they were meant for, but due to the loud, and terrible overall design, I just can't give them a great rating. Works but noisy.
Noisy and doesn't mount flush with the other drive bay components but it does move some air for an old oem case that doesn't have front mounted fans. Might just swap it for a single bigger drive bay fan later.

So far, better than expected.
So far it is doing it's job. It is quiet enough. (Actually, since there are reviewers stating that it is noisy, I found it to be quieter than expected.) Even if (a) fan(s) fail, I think it is possible to replace just the fan(s).Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Cools Hard Drive But Is Noisy
In my computer, this cooler would not install in the same 5.25" bay as my hard drive. This is because of the design of the bracket holder in my Dell computer, not necessarily a deficiency in the design of this cooler. You can also install this cooler in the drive bay above the drive where your hard drive is located and it will do a good job of cooling. That's how I installed it. I did notice a 3-5 degree Celsius drop in hard drive temperature versus no fans running at all in this cooler, so the fans really do help. You may want to consider instead simply putting a perforated drive bay cover on the drive bay where your hard drive is located. This alone may give you enough cooling. But it's always the case that cooler is better in terms of preserving your hard drive. One thing I was disappointed with in this cooler is the noise. It generates an unacceptable amount of noise at full speed in my opinion but I do have sensitive hearing and others may disagree with me on this. You may want to consider using a 12v to 7v power adapter to lower the noise while still getting a good amount of cooling from the fans.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
