Accurate and easy to use protractor.
This a good protractor, and being a plastic material it should last for long time, no tearing or ripping. I found it easy to get a very accurate result, and the cartridge is now very well set up. Essential tool for quality turntables.
When I purchased my Technics SL-1210 MK 2 turntable in 2004/5, I had a choice of cartridge to be fitted. I opted for the Ortofon. The store set up the turntable using their own equipment. The turntable was stored for 10 years due to moving addresses. After research I found the equipment required to set up the turntable and stylus for optimum performance - considering the tripling of the cost of the turntable due to the decline and resurgence of Vinyl I also needed the same tools. The product is simple, it aligns the angle of the stylus to ensure you tighten the cartridge head to the correct angle. Simple but accurate tool to check the alignment of your phono cartridge.
I wasn't sure if my Ortofon OM5E cartridge had been aligned correctly, so I decided to check it using this protractor. It's a simple device, which checks whether the long axis of the cartridge is parallel to the grooves at 2 points on the turntable. If it's not, the cartridge can be moved backwards or forwards until it's aligned properly. I found that my cartridge needed to be moved forwards by a mm or so (I needed to increase the overhang). Once you do this, you may need to check the tracking force again. Now I just need to find a special record to check the anti-skate setting.. This is a nice simple tool, but maybe a little pricey for what is is- although it is made of a durable plastic material, so it should last well.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
