Bogen 3047 Tripod Head
Been using these for years. I finally realized you can actually wear one out when I found I could no longer tighten the handles down tight enough to keep the head from moving, thus why I recently bought another. The mounting plate lock is totally dependable provided you get the plate mounted properly AND you lock it. I use to use these with 4x5 and 8x10 view cameras so it's more than sufficient for a DSLR.

My first 3047 head was purchased 45 years ago. I have a few of them and still use the original. It can handle large cameras with no problem.
