The Orviile , oddball but entertaining
The orville will appeal to sci fi fans with an open mind because its like no Star Trek series if thats what your bag is. Having said that,some compare it in a way to the old original series. You may not get it until a few episodes in so be patient ,its worth it. Has some interesting stories and the picture and colours were clear and crisp on the dvd i had. This is Family Guy in space. Seth MacFarlane wants to make a spoof Star Trek series. Unfortunately the humour isn't very funny and although there are some good stories, they are basically direct copies of Star Trek episodes. It's Trekking, but not as we know it.
The dynamic range of characters in this series are wider than the 'Original series'. These guys are allowed to have a laugh, too. This does not detract from the tension in 'uh-oh' moments. Seth MacFarlane is not James T. Kirk, if you're expecting that. Just as well- probably wouldn't work as well. Forget 'Discovery', this is much more watchable, and enjoyable if you think of yourself as a fan, though you definitely don't need to be.
