Split Decision
Having two cutting edges can be both advantageous and a slight hindrance. Against the usual single bladed performance the moving edge seems to start the split more often than the static end making targeting the split a little difficult particularly with wood of small cross-section. I found myself blocking off the moving blade with a piece of flat wood so that I could target where the split would occur. However, the log-splitter never failed even on large logs. The position one needs to adopt to pull the triggers means leaning over the machine so eye protection is mandatory. In searching for more safety I feel it has been overdone and the former two-handled machines are less threatening to one's face although I accept that the new design is universal. Constantly stopping and starting an electric motor makes me doubt its longevity. As I'm no expert on motors I should need re-assurance. It really works!
I have been chopping wood for years(mainly for wood burning stoves) but decided there must be an easier way. This splitter has solved this problems and the duo blade really does work. I have just split a whole tree, up to 20in diam in 4hrs, with a lot of knots and joins. As a trained agricultural engineer I am also impressed with the build quality and design. Very impressive little machine. It splits quite large logs with ease, I didn't bother with the stand, just placed a piece of 18mm ply across my trestles which gives a nice solid platform at a comfortable working height. Forest Master 5 ton log splitter
The log splitter required minor simple assembly out of the box before use. It is of robust build quality leading me to believe it will last a long time. I have split about 2 tons of logs so far with no problems, and some logs were very big in diameter. Unless you have a sturdy table to operate this on I would advise buying the stand as well, as operating it on the ground can prove to be a strain on your back after a while. Absolutely excellent, no complaints, I have split loads of massive, knotty logs in no time at all. I should have got one years ago. Important to remember to open the air bleed valve though, in fact as my splitter is never tilted I now leave it open full time for safety.
