I grew up listening to progressive rock in the late 60s and 70s. Now having more time on my hands, I decided to learn what had happened to prog since its near-demise in the late 70s and early 80s, as the only band on my radar had been Asia. That is primarily because of my love of Steve Howe's guitar playing. During my search, I came across the excellent reviews on the YouTube channel Sea of Tranquility. This album was highly recommended, and I immediately watched a couple of videos of Magenta in concert. I ordered this album immediately. The melodic richness and carefully crafted instrumental sections are reminiscent of early prog, but with a modern take and unique sound without becoming too heavy. I'm also very glad to see that we have musicians who still take the concept album seriously! I've since bought The White Witch, and started to learn about the other work of Rob Reed. I'm sure that my collection of Magenta will grow in the coming years, as the musicianship and composition are excellent. If you're a prog rock fan and want to extend beyond the classics like Fantasy, Yes, King Crimson etc., this album and Magenta is a must.Read full review
