Mike O'Donnell, played by Matthew Perry (The Whole Nine Yards) hates his life and wishes he could have a do-over. Sound familiar? Well it should. There have been a lot of movies about becoming younger, or becoming older, or vice-versa (actually the name of one of them) To name a few: 13 Going on 30, FREAKY FRIDAY, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, 18 Again!, Dream a Little Dream and I am sure you can name a few more if you try hard enough. I was sure this idea had run it's course and 17 Again would be just another in a long list of the same story over and over again. And it was, only with one catch, it was actually pretty good. It was entertaining in that it captured my attention and held it for a majority of the movie. It was funny at times, so much so that I actually laughed out loud at a few of the scenes. And it was heart warming to see how this person had screwed up his life and was only now realizing that he wanted it all back. There were a lot of the same things that were in all the other movies, like the initial shock, the friend who is the only one who knows, and of course the school bully. But all that aside this was a pretty good movie that I would not mind seeing again. Rated 4 of 5 only because there have been so many of these types of movies. There is some violence and some drinking and some adult scenes, but it is relatively clean overall. I suggest you see it for yourself and decide.Read full review
This movie is such a delight I've watched it 3 times already. It has some outrageously funny parts, but is also heartwarming, well played, and well acted! In addition, the basketball moves are really good, the story and dialogue are well written and engaging, and Zac Efron is yummy to watch! This one's a keeper for both parents and teens to enjoy over and over. And non-teens / non-parents, too.

Plot: About a guy whose life didn't quite turn out how he wanted it to and wishes he could go back to high school and change it. He wakes up one day and is seventeen again and gets the chance to rewrite his life. How many times is this plot going to be re-hashed? THE ONLY reason I watched it thru was to try to get more hot scenes of a mostly naked Zac Efron. (I am such an old Queen!) Zac's nakedness also got it to a 2.9 Stars. Trivia: Toward the end of filming Zac Efron had appendicitis. It started out as a stomach ache but he had it checked out that night after filming and he had surgery that same night. Director: Burr Steers Writer: Jason Filardi Stars: Zac Efron, Matthew Perry, Leslie Mann
Very Funny movie Great ACTORS, some real life pressures @ High School as in real life w/ teens

While watching this movie on family with my children/grandchildren we had a great time. This movie is funny, happy, sad, and can make you shed a few tears. Zac Efron is a wonderful actor, he can make you believe he is whoever he is playing, no matter if its an autistic child or man who is in his 40's and goes back to being 17 again. It's a todays time of "It's a Wonderful Life". Only this Life is Zac wondering what would have happen if he had went "pro" in basketball as a teenager. Well as live would have it. He helps his son learn to play basketball and builds a relationship with him. His daughter is falling in love with him and he really wants to be with his wife: so what it came down too, he looks in stands and makes the same love you sign to his wife, as he did at 17 and now she believes and he has the choice of being 17 again and living his life over or going back to his real life. Learning that sometimes, life goes as it should.Read full review
I love this movie, it is so cute. This is my second copy since my daughter wanted one too. This is different from the other movies where people changed bodies with their kids or grand kids. This movie the dad goes back to find out he would not have changed anything. The other way to look at it, this would have been Troy Bolton's life with Gabriella Montez from HSM if they had to get married.......Zac Efron does a great job, his performance is believable as the father of the teens he is hanging out with. There are deleted scenes that should have been kept in the movie, the one where Alex calls his dad about making the basketball team and Zac Efron dancing around trying to get his phone turned off before Alex realizes he is calling his 17 year old dad, totally funny.
Good cover,good picture,no skipping,enjoyed the DVD.

I liked it. I wouldn't watch it with the kids. Too much innuendo and situational stuff. But it was pretty cool.

This movie is great! Zac Efron does a great job! For this reviewer it really calls to mind the 1956 movie musical "Carousel". In that movie a dead man played by Gordon MacRAE is sent back to earth and is given one more day to rectify things that he did wrong and/or could have done better. In "17 Again", Zac Efron is given a similar opportunity. He goes from being a not-so-good dad to being a great friend and mentor to his children. As an aside, one wonders if Nora Ephron is any relation to Zac Efron. Nora Ephron played an important role in the production of Carousel! One realizes that the two surnames are not spelled exactly the same way. Nevertheless, it makes for an interesting coincidence! A great and fun movie to watch! Enjoy!
