    Well worth viewing

    This is a lovely story of an elderly Sherlock Holmes with onset dementia living in the country having given up sleuthing and the friendship he has with his housekeepers young son. Sir Ian McKellen is wonder as Mr Holmes and Milo Parker plays the young boy with his usual charm and wonderful facial expressions. The housekeeper is another excellent character played by Laura Linney. All set in a gentler time in Britains beautiful green and pleasant land with some hints of tragedy. Ive watched it a few times now and have found it very enjoyable. Not for you if you like guns, killing and sex. If you want a pleasant family film and to watch great actors with a good well written story then I would recommend Mr Holmes.

    Classic Holmes all the way.

    Utilising the age-old characterisation by Arthur Conan Doyle, all the well-known deductive skills of Sherlock Holmes are given quite an adequate exposure in this movie. Too bad, the presence of the indefatigable Dr Watson was missing, although only mentioned in passing. Overall the detective skills were kept enthralling right up till the end.

    A twist on the old and familiar. Without Watson, Holmes has a case in his new found home area. Subtle twist and an unknown love of bee keeping. McKellen excels as the octogenarian detective.
