  • OWC Mercury Elite PRO USB 3.2 5Gb/s External Storage for 3.5" SATA Drives

Another quality product from OWC. I bought this as a 0TB enclosure & added my own Seagate Barracuda 3.5 Inch HDD to create a new backup drive, as my old LaCie D2 Extreme had finally reached its end of life. The OWC enclosure looks great and is designed typically with essential features only, something that attracted me to the brand. The rear interface has a clearly laid out panel for the drive lock, USB & power jack connections and an on/off switch. Drive installation is very easy too, the rear panel unscrews, the internal caddy slides out from the front, the drive is slid into the SATA connection then secured in place with screws, slid back into the casing and the rear panel is refixed in position. After that, it's ready to use, although depending on the HDD you install, you may need to initialise/format the drive, which is also a fairly quick operation. A very good option if you want to build your own storage, rather than buy an off the shelf sealed external unit.
