La Traviata - live at La Scala- Callas, Giuseppe Di Steffano
This recording rightly is regarded as an important testimony to the performance of Callas during her so-called golden years. Beautiful, highly charged and emotional singing by her albeit, recorded as a 'live' performance during the mid 50's, the sound is pretty awful in places (even for a mono recording). Certain of the arias have never been bettered by a soprano in any of the other recordings of this opera which I've heard, and lovely to hear the tumultuous applause of the audience at La Scala at the end of her delivery on several occasions.
