Your high school English teachers were right: Steinbeck is one of the country's best writers! This volume contains some of his best. Cannery Row comes alive with places and people long before it became a tourist destination. East of Eden describes California's farm and big city inhabitants that the reader wishes he could know better. And these are only two of the novels in this volume.
