The HOYA UV & IR light transmission curve shows the sharp-cut nature of the filter glass and coatings as well as the consistent light transmission in the visible spectrum. This curve demonstrates a more even visible light transmission than the closest competitor.
I am using this filter on a full spectrum converted camera, in order to revert to 'normal' spectral response. However, there is appreciable infrared leakage, so colour images need some post process treatment of RAW to get a realistic colour balance. (It's fine for monochrome work.) There is no intrinsic colour cast so it would function OK on a normal camera, but frankly I don't see the point of that. The camera's built-in IR blocking filter is going to be better than this.
I have compared its effect to the B+W 486 filter and they are about the same, so as the title says, this is as good as it gets - just not quite good enough.
Excellent quality but my full spectrum converted full frame camera needed additional Colour Balance adjustments which can change with the lens being used. It pays to run a set of images changing the Colour balance settings
Essential for those with converted full-spectrum cameras wanting to also take visible-light photographs on the same camera. Get one. Seriously. These are excellent. This is my second; one for each IR camera. Can't recommend them highly enough.
