Good value for the money octa reflector
I bought this reflector to use mainly outdoors on location shoots with Speedlights. I didn't want to buy anything too expensive just in case it was damaged in the wind. For the money this reflector appeared too good to be true, compared with the cost of my usual studio reflectors. The build quality appears good and stood up to being opened and shut numerous times. The centre staff is a little lightweight and you have to be careful when clamping your hand bracket to it. I could see this being the first point of failure if you're not careful. In practice, I had an initial problem with the quality of light being produced, as the cold shoe light bracket pushed the Speedlight off centre making catchlights in the subject's eyes showing only half the octabox. I managed to solve the problem by placing 2 Speedlights in the reflector and angled the heads 45 degrees away from the front rather than pointing direct into the back centre of the brolly. This solution produced a nice even octa-signature catchlight in the subjects eyes. A bit of a pain having to use 2 speed lights when 1 would do. (does give you faster recycle times thought) I guess this will be a problem for any reflector where the light source is so off centre and the advantage of one that has access from the rear or a way of bringing the light source nearer to the centre staff. My conclusion would be, you get what you pay for, but you do get a lot for the incredible £12.00 and if you can put up with the faff it's worth a try. Personally, I will continue to use it for outside work until it starts to irritate me too much.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
