  • Very fiddly to wire.

Very fiddly to wire. Terminals are very close so care need to be taken to ensure there's no shorting through stray strands or the possibility of arcing between the terminals. The lack of a washer under the clamping screws causes the cable to be forced out whilst attempting to clamp it down. It is necessary to form a complete loop of bare wire around the screw in order to prevent this from happening. I almost gave up on them and I consider myself to be fairly experienced in basic electronics repair and maintenance! Probably easier and safer to use a moulded plug unless you are pretty familiar with this type of thing. I certainly would not use one for high current applications.

  • Absolutely terrible connector.

I originally purchased this to convert a standard 3-pin extension lead into an IEC C14 compatible one to use with my PDU. Little did I realise how terribly awful this product is... The connector itself is a little long and made from a very cheap plastic, which is expected considering the price. Taking the connector apart to feed in the cables was easy, as it's held together by a single fastener in the centre. There are also 2 additional fasteners inside, for the strain relief, which are fastened into hexagonal threaded ends. If you're not careful. these threaded ends drop out, and they're so small that they can easily get lost. The 3 prongs also have fasteners on them, which you're supposed to wrap your cable around and then tighten them down...Sounds easy right? Nope, not at all! These fasteners just will not accept stranded cable of any kind, because the fastener heads are so narrow they just can't grip the strands. I tried twisting the cable clockwise around the fastener, splitting the cable in the centre and wrapping them around the fastener from both directions, and even cutting a section out from the insulation and then trying to wrap it around; nothing worked. In the end, I had to use a piece of solid cable to wrap around the fastener, and then splice these with the stranded cable. It took absolutely ages, and I lost my patience, as well as part of my sanity, trying to work with them, as I'm sure you will too. I honestly wish I had never come across these connectors, as they've caused me nothing but grief, and I discarded it because I just don't trust them. I cannot recommend this connector at all.

  • Not Fit for Purpose

Wish Id read the reviews before I bought these. I my opinion as an electrician these are dangerous. The case is made of very flimsy plastic and held together by a single screw. The separation between the earth terminal and live and neutral terminals is only a few millimetres so the is a good chance of a short. The screw connectors are too small to grip the wires securely (again running the risk of a short to earth). I bought 5 of these did not bother trying to use them, 4 went straight in the bin and 1 Ive sent to my local trading standards.

  • Unsafe

The general construction is flimsy but the real issue is in the internal connections. The terminal screws supplied have heads too small to adequately hold the wire. Not only are they too small but they are poor quality with heads somewhat rounded beneath so that the wire is squeezed out as the screw is tightened. There isn't enough room to add a washer without forcing the plastic moulding aside, but that is really the only fix. (I tried to use a crimp eyelet on the cables but found there was nowhere near enough room.) The cable clamp is ridiculous, held with two tiny screws and looks designed to take a cable no more than 5mm diameter.

  • Unless you solder. - don't buy

The screw fitting to attach mains power wires is too short for positive, negative and earth. You would either have to use a much narrower guage wire (CAUTION FIRE HAZARD) so you could attach them. Or Be prepared to solder instead of screwing tight. Not for the inexperienced.

  • Shocking!

The level of electrical safety of this plug is alarming. Instead of passing the wire through the pin as in a conventional UK plug, this plug expects you to twist the wire around a small screw- which doesn't hold the wire securely. You might get away with that if only the cable retaining clip worked. The screws that hold the metal strip in place are only just long enough before you fit a cable. As soon as the cable is installed, the screws are too short.

  • You'll need to solder the wires in place

These plugs work fine as long as you solder your wires to the connector pins. It was impossible to get the wires to stay in place safely using the screws provided.

  • Problem solved

Good sturdy product and simple to wire up. I bought this as a flex connector withe a female plug to complete the set in a lighting application as it is slimline, all the flex connectors I had seen on the market were too bulky and this has worked perfectly.
