Well Thought Out Product & Made In Wales.
I've been looking for something to replace the ceramic discs on my elderly Outback BBQ for sometime and the idea that this product has woodchips embedded in it caught my eye in an attempt to re recreate the charcoal smokiness, it goes part way to doing this. The fact that the briquettes are rectangular in plan view means that unlike my randomly shaped discs you get much better coverage over the cooking area and flames from the burners are less likely to "pop" through during cooking.

Great product, transforms a gas bbq
Converted my Outback Spectrum from 'flame tamers' to penroc. Not straightforward, I had to make trays to carry the penroc but what a difference. I'm on my second lot now, the first batch lasted about 2 years, and I bbq a lot. Well worth the effort. The penroc absorbs the fat and acts just like charcoal. The best of both worlds, ease of gas and behave like charcoal!

A very good offer
Had our gas BBQ for over 5 years during which time the lava rocks were never changed. At the start of this season they were covered in mould so I decided replacements were needed. This product was discovered while searching for a suitable replacement. Interesting to read this was the new rock solution, a combination of interesting constituents, and it has not disappointed. Placed in the tray honeycomb fashion - once hot they produced a nice even heat equally as hot as the old rocks. As to durability etc I cannot say at the moment but they look so clean (and hygienic) and I feel they just ought to be better. Very pleased, just knowing they are clean. Old rocks regularly caught fire once enough fat had dripped off the food - so looking forward to the promise this will be less likely happen. Flame grilled food is not always desirable.

Better than normal lava rock
The fact that this is flat bottomed makes the heat spread very good, it last a long while I change mine every 2 years which is a good time span. All I do at the end of the BBQ season is turn up the BBQ and burn off any residue which gets rid of most of any smell

BRILLIANT STUFF!!!!! have always used lava rock on my gas bbq , but am now converted. This lava rock replacement heats up well, and creates an even cooking surface. More smoke than you get with lava rock, which is what you actually want a bbq to do.

Modify your barbie now!
These Penroc briquettes were being sold at approx. half their advertised price elsewhere so I decided to convert my gas BBQ (with metal flame tamers) to one with a layer of these briquettes on a s/s mesh between the flames and the food grill instead. What a difference! - the food cooks more evenly, no flare-ups and, of course, with a much improved "smoked" flavour. I recommend these briquettes without hesitation, either as a gas BBQ conversion (like I did) or as a direct replacement for Lava rocks - you won't regret it!
