In the eagerness to fit DCC to all their units, Bachmann didn't really think this through. On other DMU sets, connection is through the individual carriages, and that seems to work just fine, but here, they decided to put a tiny bit of plastic, with flimsy connectors, just to get power to the trailing carriages. This is bad enough on a two car set, where once it is fitted, you have to leave it in place, or take the greatest of care disconnecting, but with a four car unit, there are three of these, each a potential point of failure. If you have a permanent layout, with room to keep your 350 or 170 out all the time, and have a number of separate loops where DCC is easy to use, then you may not need them, but for smaller layouts, where the stock is stored off track most of the time, make sure you have these spares, and a steady hand when taking your units apart for storage. 3 stars, not because of the quality, but because with a bit more thought by the designers, they wouldn't have been necessary in the first place.Read full review
