As most records do not lie flat on the turntable platter, sound reproduction suffers due to undamped vinyl resonances caused by the stylus riding on an unsupported record. The Analogue Studio record clamp solves these problems by ensuring a more intimate connection between the record and the platter.
As the name suggests it is simple but clever design. BUT it is Not easy to fit or remove to the Turntable Spindle due to it needing a Lot of Pressure to push it down to mate with the Record. This is fairly ok if the turntable has a Solid Plinth (my Turntable is a Project Debut Carbon Esprit SB), but Turntables that have a suspended sub chassis such as the Linn Sondek or similar, the downward presure to fit would push the Platter and Sub Chassis down aswel ?!. It is best to twist it Clockwise when Pushing, and Counterclockwise when removing as this helps a lot when using.
Would i recommend buying it, yes, but as above it depends on the Turntable using it with as the downwood pressure needing to fit is quite worrying !.
There are No instructions for use either, so it is up to the user as the best way to fit and remove the Clamp.
Dont let me put you off buying it as the design and build quality is excellent and it Clamps the Record to the Platter very tightly, and the Clamp being made of a Plastic material weighs next to nothing.
A nicely designed and well made little device that I would imagine does its job well with an appropriate record deck. My early (1979) Linn Sondek turned out not to be however, as the centre spindle is shorter than the clamp needs. The deck is fitted with its original turntable platter but an Origin Live record mat which is thinner than the original Linn felt mat, so the spindle actually protrudes further than it would do with the original mat. A general point regarding 'suspended' turntables like the Linn is that even if the spindle had been long enough the tightness of clamp would require a really firm press against the suspension in order to fit it, which may not be desirable.
It requires to much force to push in and it still doesn't stay on the spindle. it just pops out. It's modeled after the outrageously priced Clearaudio but crudely so
