I've been using this same folding saw now for many years. I get through around 3 blades a year as gardening is my occupation. Might seem quite expensive but considering its ability I think worth it. Cheap DIY shop style saws of this design are nothing like as effective as a genuine Bahco. Blades very quick and easy to replace into handle. The blade is so sharp that it will effortlessly cut branches up to around 4 inches in diameter - even bigger if needed, although that would wear the blade out faster. Just the pulling and pushing motion cuts the wood - no pressure is needed. Once the blade is worn the effort obviously increases. I don't have a one-handed chainsaw (special license required) but this is a very effective - and much safer tool - for in-tree pruning. 'Full size' two-handed chainsaws are not safe for amateurs to use up a tree or from a ladder, even though anybody can buy one in Argos! I've not personally ever got on very well with conventional hand bow saws (the type of saw with a very course serration), really a bow saw - even with a new blade, (bare in mind many saws of all types you may have used, unless new, have blunt blades!) cannot be compared to the efficiency of a blade like this. I think bow saw blades are designed to last a long time? Don't know really but they're very hard to use effectively. This type of saw is not designed for cutting firewood - it's a pruning saw for 'green' wood. If you were to cut firewood with it (especially old, seasoned firewood) it would soon blunt the blade. If you're cutting firewood use a chainsaw! Recommended for serious gardeners but remember to always change the blade when it gets blunt!

  • Bahco quality

I've always found Bahco products are of very good quality, decent value and as a professional gardener I would always recommend them. This product is no exception. One thing of note is this pruning blade cuts on the push and the pull which I believe all Bahco saws do. Most other brands I've used such as silkly pruning saws cut only on the pull. It is completely down to personal preference to which you prefer I can't say either one or the other is best.
