sE z5600
Reassuringly solid build, like the Geminis younger brother. Frequency - pretty flat, untill +1.5dB at 2650Hz, -1.6dB at 5300Hz, climbing to + 4.5dB at 8000Hz and +5.6dB at 13000Hz, dropping to 2.7dB at 20000Hz.
So as you might expect a lot of air at the top end, well balanced, with no bass roll off in the lower frequencies.
What the graphs don't show is a 'character vibe' the mic has, which is quite retro sounding, detailed in an almost fizzy way.
The powered supply has a continuously variable polar pattern change control from Omni to cardiod to figure 8. This as you might expect brings a variety of different flavours to the sound enabling choices to made. There is a low cut on the PSU as well.
A versatile and vibey valve mic, worked very well as vocal mic on a retro version of 'cant take my eyes off you'. Worked even better blended with a Golden Age ribbon mic blended in. In this context the Z5600 supplied the detail and excitement, while the dark ribbon provided a smooth extended low end.
